ZipSplitter Description

ZipSplitter is a handy application designed to compress and split large files. When you split a file, the program converts the last part into an executable file automatically, whose function is to reconstruct the original file without need to have this or any other similar tool installed on your system. In addition, the program can copy the generated parts to floppy disks for you. The program's initial screen offers you a tree view of your file system, which will help you to select the file you want to compress and/or split. When you double-click on it, the program will take you to the second screen, where you can choose the action to perform among "zip it", "split it", "copy it" and "move it". "Zip it" creates a ZIP archive containing your source file in order to reduce its size as much as possible. "Split it" lets you divide your file (either previously compressed or not) into 1.39MB, 1MB, or 512KB smaller files. Finally, "copy it" and "move it" are useful to send the generated parts to floppy disk automatically. As mentioned before, when you divide a file its last part is turned into an executable file for self-restoring. However, my antivirus tool (AVG 2012) detected a "Win32/Heur" virus on it, which, of course, poses a serious security risk. Additionally, the program does not allow you to divide your files by a customized file size or into a fixed number of parts. All those details detract from the program’s functionality.
