Editor's review: This is an audit tool for active directory services on the Windows server 2008. LepideAuditor for Active Directory tool lets you set Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS). Auditing of features in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 can be done with this tool. A new audit sub-category to log the old and new values of changes made to objects and their attributes have been added to the features. This is an improvement over the earlier versions of the Windows server related services. In these versions, Active Directory audit logs shows Who made changes to What object attributes. However, the old and new values are not collected and cannot be displayed. With the added auditing feature, log events show both old and new values. Changes made to the Active Directory through creating, modifying, moving, deleting or undeleting an object are recorded through the audits conducted. Auditing policy can be configured in several sub-categories. This Windows Server 2008 lets you set these policies in Directory Service Access, Directory Service Changes, Directory Service Replication and Detailed Directory Service Replication. Policy changes can be implemented at three different levels. Global audit policy, system access control list (SACL) and at Schema levels. At the global level, the Global audit policy will have to be turned on as they are not by default. The SACL is part of a security descriptor for an AD object. This describes what operations should be audited. Overrides can be set at schema level to reduce the number of audit events to manageable proportions. This is a very good tool.
