Turning the PC into a Media Center is not too difficult a task, especially since there are numerous software solutions that were created just for this purpose. Transferring the data streams onto a Nintendo Wii console, though, might be a bit tricky, but rest assured there are ways of getting this done as well. Wii Media Center X is an application that is meant to carry out exactly this task, namely to send the broadcast straight to the console, with minimal configurations.Browser-based environment for multimedia streamingEven if the installation might take a bit of time in case the necessary Java requirements are not met, the setup should be done in a matter of minutes. As soon as it is complete, you will be able to use the Wii Media Center X launcher window to start the appropriate module. The Media Center is loaded in your default browser (Firefox and Internet Explorer are supported) and you will have at your fingertips all the movies, music and pictures stored onto the system on which the server is running. Browse for files or populate the dedicated folders on the spotWhen it comes to accessing the content from the server, Wii Media Center X will enable you to do so in more than one way. To be more precise, there is a direct way of exploring the contents of the host drives, by going to the 'My Files' section to view the available partitions then locate the media you want to play. Alternately, you can add the files manually in the corresponding directories found in the installation folder of Wii Media Center X. There are 3 different containers, one for each type of file: 'My Videos', 'My Music' and 'My Pictures'. Easy to use multimedia server for streaming content to Nintendo WiiOn the whole, the application proves a quite interesting way of making multimedia files available through streaming for a gaming console. The idea is pretty good and implemented decently, with one exception, that of the music functionality which is not available for Wii and PS3 devices.
