VHD Attach Description
VHD Attach is intended to create and mount virtual hard disks (VHD). This allows you to create a virtual drive inside your physical drive, which means that whatever you save on the virtual disk is actually stored in a file. The utility has a very straightforward graphical interface, whose operation may be deciphered without much effort. However, there is no help documentation available should you need it. As said above, this program is very easy to use. The first step is usually creating a virtual hard disk. Luckily, there is no limit on the number of drives you can create, except those imposed by your hard disk capacity and the operating system. At this point, you can set the virtual disk size. However, if you choose to create a dynamically expanding disk, the file that contains the data can grow in response to your needs. It is also possible to pick the desired drive letter. Besides, you can tell the program to automatically mount a given disk at system startup. Once a drive has been mounted, you can start using it. Since there is no difference between the way you use a real and a virtual drive. You can immediately start managing your contents as all regular operations, such as copying, pasting and deleting are allowed. Likewise, you can easily mount or unmount a drive directly from the system’s contextual menu. In general, VHD Attach has the main advantage of being very light and stable. Moreover, it is absolutely free. Unfortunately, this program also has some limitations. First, it does not support any file extensions other than VHD, so it becomes useless if you need to mount an ISO file, for instance. Second, it does not seem to provide any kind of protection to the contents because it does not allow using a password or encrypting data. Finally, this utility looks a little outdated.
