Create a search engine for your web site without requiring any server side installations Works with any existing hosting solution You can install the search engine on your existing hosting server, whether Windows or Unix based. There's no need to host the search on another server. Incredibly easy installation of the search engine Because Search Engine Studio uses its own database engine optimized for the searching purposes, there is NO setup required on server. All you need to do is upload the files created by the program (or even have the program do it for you!) and the search is ready to be used! Generate search for a wide range of targets (web site, intranet or offline search) The program can create a highly optimized binary CGI script for Apple MacOSX (e.g. WebStar / Apache), Unix (e.g. Apache on Linux, FreeBSD, Sun Sparc - Solaris) / Windows servers. The CGI scripts generated are lightning fast even when indexing hundreds of thousands of documents. The program can also generate a Java servlet or PHP script (compatible with virtually all web servers but slower when a very large number of documents is indexed). You can also create a version for offline search (equally fast as the CGI version, suited for CD-ROM / DVD distributions) which will work on Windows as well as Unix and Mac browsers with no additional software and no internet connection required. Easy to get started -- build a search engine in a few minutes The program comes with an assistant which guides you through all the steps of creating a search engine and showing you how to use the program, thus making search engine creation an incredibly easy task. You no longer need to be an advanced web developer to add a search engine to your web site! Easy integration with existing web site Search Engine Studio supports integration of the search engine with an existing web site (e.g. based on a DreamWeaver template) -- even if your web site is frame-based, you can visually click on the frames where specific search engine parts will be displayed. The results page also optionally uses a template page specified by you so that it can look like other pages of your website (e.g. with a navigation bar, company logo or copyright notice). Fully flexible formatting of search results The search engine results can be freely formatted. Using the result formatting builder you can decide what each search result will contain (e.g. date, size, title, description or content preview) and exactly how the results will be displayed (you can set fonts, colors, links as well as e.g. put parts of results into different table cells). In fact, you can decide about EVERY detail of the formatting, including conditional inclusion of HTML code (e.g. images) based on document type or date. You can also easily add a NEW image to documents created recently. The supported items you can insert into the result template are: document date, description, title, filename, size, type, URL, content preview, result number, or custom HTML code. Automatic updates of databases You can have Search Engine Studio automatically update the search databases periodically (e.g. once per hour, day or week) so that the search results always reflect the latest changes in the website. Content preview of search results The result listings can show the exact location of searched words (marked in bold) within the document's contents together with the surrounding words so the user sees the exact context in which the searched words appear in the documents. Please note that you can also display a document description (parsed from the meta or title tag). Phrase search The visitors can search for whole phrases, that is by embedding an expression in quote characters, e.g. "search engine", only the documents that contain the word 'engine' following 'search' will be listed in the results. Advanced boolean search (using AND, OR, NOT and parentheses) The visitors can create advanced boolean search queries using AND, OR, NOT keywords and parentheses. For example: (word1 and not word2) or (word3 and word4). Wildcard search Your visitors can enter search query containing wildcards (e.g. the user can search for all words starting with, ending with, or containing a given letter sequence) by using the * and ? characters. For example, *tribut? which will match words like: contribute, attribute, tribute. Search box appearance and options can be set using a built-in tool With a built-in tool (search box builder) you can fully customize the appearance of the search box using either a pre-defined set of search box options (e.g. date or document type selector, result count per page selector) or by adding custom HTML code. Result filtering based on documents' creation date, type or URL You can allow the visitor to filter out documents from the results based on document's creation date, document type, or the section of the web site in which the result is found. Foreign language support Using built-in language tools, all messages displayed to the user can be translated to another language. Search Engine Studio also offers support for non-standard characters, e.g. so that searching for 'über' and 'ueber' will return the same results. Small database size The databases generated by Search Engine Studio are well compressed. Please check the samples section for specific numbers. You can also decide to sacrifice some features (e.g. phrase search or content preview) in order to further decrease the size of databases. Multilple database sets It's possible to allow the user to select the section of a website that will be searched by creating multiple database sets, each for a different section or for a different website. FTP upload You can have the program upload the output files automatically to an FTP server or to a local / network disk. Customizable result ranking It's up to you to decide how documents should be indexed, that is, which parts of a document (filename, document body -- regular keywords, meta keywords, meta description, document title) are ranked higher or lower, or are completely ignored. Cross-browser compatibility The search scripts are executed on the server-side, therefore the pages generated by the script are compatibile with all browsers on the client side (note: the only exception is the offline search which is executed on the client side and requires an MS Windows-based system). Works with frame-based or frameless configurations Search engines will work both with frame-based or frameless configurations. You can have the search box, search results and target URLs displayed in any frame you like (or in a new window). Informative and clear user interface At every moment you can preview and test the search engine by using the preview window, which thanks to the offline search offers the possibility of executing the actual search just the way it will work and look when uploaded to the web server. You can also use a number of other options to filter out documents / website sections. UTF-8 support The search indexes pages encoded using any encoding and it uses the UTF-8 encoding to display results. This allows for indexing of multi-language websites. Optional NT/XP Service Possibility to use Search Engine Studio Service (sold separately): Search Engine Studio Service is an NT Service that can manage creation and update of your search engines automatically, even when you are not logged on your system account (important if e.g. your system reboots). This way, once you set up the service, you can have your search engines updated, depending on your settings, on the selected days time or as soon as the contents of a folder/its subfolders change. This allows you to easily manage all your Search Engine Studio tasks with a very easy-to-use user interface.
