Passware Encryption Analyzer Description

Passware Encryption Analyzer is a file searcher for Windows. It is an application that can be used to scan your hard drives and other removable media to find files that are protected with passwords. There is support for over 160 different file types and supposedly, the application can help you recover the passwords of your files if you don't remember them. In my testing, I protected a ZIP file with a password using 7-zip and its standard ZipCrypto algorithm. I placed the file on the desktop and started a simple scan with Passware Encryption Analyzer. After a few minutes, the application detected this file, along with other files that it didn't tell me about because it simply ignored them. The password-protected file was clearly visible in a separate category after the scan. Once files are found, you can pause or stop scans, too. By double-clicking the file, it is opened with the associated application for that file type. On the website, it says that this app can automatically load a module to recover passwords for you. In my case, it told me that no modules were found and that I had to install Passware Kit, which is a password cracking tool by the same developers. This might simply be a shareware limitation.
