The Loan Calculator for Excel (Lite Edition) is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet designed for quick and easy analysis of the effect of a loan's terms on the borrower's payment obligations. The spreadsheet is flexible and easy-to-use. Simply enter the principal amount, interest rate, payment frequency and the term (length) of the loan and a payment table is automatically generated. The table automatically calculates and shows the breakdown of each payment between principal and interest and displays a running total of the balance that will be owed after each payment. A useful chart is also automatically generated that shows you the breakdown of principal and interest attributed to your loan payments over time. (In the early years of a loan, payments primarily cover interest. Principal reduction becomes a greater portion of the payments as the loan nears maturity.) The Loan Calculator for Excel can accommodate loans with up to 1,000 payment periods and users may enter an "extra payment" amount to be included in every payment.
