The KAKE-ABC 10 online station provides important breaking news about weather conditions in Kansas and wider regions, online, including Radar forecasts for SC, SW, and NS Kansas, and Metro Witchita, Garden City Dodge City, and Salina, as well as 7 Day Forecasts. Every Spring, the National Weather Service in Witchita provides Storm Spotting Training sessions which teach the basics of thunderstorm development, the structures of storms, how and when to report storm information, and about basic measures of safety. To keep you weather-alerted, KAKE has developed a free program called KAKE First Alert that you can download from their online station. This application will provide you with immediate access to breaking news provided by the National Weather Service, and alert you instantly when it receives a weather warning, right on your desktop. The program has a neat interface, and when minimized, it sits quietly in your taskbar displaying the current temperature of a location of your choice. Via First Alert, KAKE will provide you with amber alerts, and national security issue information, and it features Local and National Doppler Radar coverage as well. Upon a severe weather alert, your computer or laptop will make an audible sound and then display a text crawl of the warning across your desktop just like the ones you see on television news programs.
