IE Asterisk Password Uncover Description
This is a FREE program to reveal Internet Explorer passwords. Usually, programs in Windows have the option to save passwords and these passwords are saved behind asterisks like these ****** in order to protect your passwords from prying eyes. One of these programs is Internet Explorer. This function makes browsing easier and more comfortable. But, as you don't need to write your passwords anymore, you eventually forget them. In those cases, IE Asterisk Password Uncover 1.2 is supposed to help. This program runs under Windows 2000, 2003 and XP and shows the passwords behind the asterisks. This could be a great tool but has three weak points. First, it's neither practical nor intuitive. Second, it has some bugs under Windows Vista. Well, the developer didn't say it's compatible with Vista, but we tried. Third, it only supports Microsoft Internet Explorer. There's another program by the same developer, named SpotAuditor, able to recover passwords from Mozilla Firefox and other Windows applications, but you must pay for it. The interface is not the paradigm of beauty and it's available only in English. There's no Help file included and the way it retrieves passwords is not the most practical. But if you need to recover your Internet Explorer passwords and are using one of the operative systems supported, it should work well. Fortunately, if you're using Mozilla Firefox 3 you will never need an application like this because Firefox already has an option to show hidden passwords. You just need to select that option in Options/Security/Saved Passwords. It's really unbelievable that Microsoft Internet Explorer doesn't have an option like this. It's almost a crime!
