Facebook Phishing Protector is a lightweight Firefox extension built specifically for helping you protect your Facebook account from phishing attacks that may easily steal sensitive data. Cross-site scripting (XSS) is a type of computer security vulnerability that allows hackers to inject malicious scripts into webpages for gaining access to important page content, session cookies, or other private information. They manage to run in a stealth mode, so they are difficult to be detected, and exploit one of the known weak points in web-based utilities (e.g. servers, plug-ins) for embedding malicious content. Facebook Phishing Protector is able to detect phishing attacks, such as a script injection attempt or website (other than Facebook) that requests you credentials, and blocks the malicious script. When it comes to configuration settings, the utility lets you enable popup windows for notifying you when a threat has been detected (and disable those used by Firefox), and allow some scripts to run if they appear in the tool’s whitelist database. What’s more, you can disable the notification mode and enable the “FB Tracking Protection” function for blocking Facebook scripts present on other websites. The last option disables Like buttons and other options that are run on third-party websites. The program displays a popup notification each time an attempt to inject a remote or unknown script has been blocked, provides information about the URL and date, and lets you know when you are about to authenticate on a fake Facebook website.
