Blue Bird Description

Web browsers represent the gateways to the virtual place to which you're almost always connected either through a computer or a mobile device, the information superhighway, the Internet. The market is flooded with products that race to provide speed and various features for an enhanced experience. Amongst others, you can take Blue Bird for a spin if you're looking for an alternative.Simple layout and set of controlsTruth be told, the application isn't much to look at and surely makes short-fused people look away. You are greeted by a “Welcome” tab fitted with a few hints and a basic description. This layout is where websites are displayed, with the upper toolbar being fitted with all controls used for navigation. Quick navigation through keywordsYou notice that there are two address fields, one which is commonly used by all browsers so you can type the address, while the other is used to quickly take you to several dedicated pages by writing keywords, such as Facebook or Twitter. Rough design and flawed functionalityThe overall implementation of features leaves a lot to be desired, starting with the rough visual design and summing it up through the flawed functionality. You need to use all navigation buttons, even the “Go” button, because pressing Return on your keyboard has no effect. What's more, you need to pay attention after hitting the “Go” button, or you might think nothing happens. This is because your page is opened in a different tab, but you are not automatically taken there. Don't even bother to make the window larger, because the display area remains the same. Far from being a pro of its kindThis mostly sums up the set of features the application is equipped with. This means that you are not able to save your favorite pages for quick access, view history or any other options you're used to from others of its kind. Moreover, you can only access one page at a time, because of the lack of support for multiple tabs, or at least more instances of the application. In conclusionAll in all, Blue Bird is at its first step in development towards becoming a practical web browser. The only thing worth mentioning is the decent loading speed, but this is only due to the lack of any other features that would have taken up resources. The “Easy go to” feature looks promising, but there isn't a list of supported websites, but the implemented ones are too shallow to tip the scale even a bit in the app's favor. With more work, it might just one day hit the market with a powerful blow. Reviewed by Mircea Dragomir, last updated on January 10th, 2015
