Alert Commander from Logitech has been created to offer users the possibility to set up a complete video security system by themselves instead of paying for expensive surveillance equipment. Installing the application may take a while, even on more powerful systems, but it is a simple operation that requires little effort from the user.Wizard-driven initial configurationAt the end of the process the application launches a configuration wizard that helps set up the system. This entails preparing of the cameras, the storage location for the images and setting up an online viewing account on Logitech’s servers for accessing the data. As soon as this is finished the user can start watching the camera(s) and check the recordings as soon as they are available. Simple and straightforward interfaceThe interface is simple and there is the possibility to adjust the layout according to the number of cameras hooked to the system. The largest area of the application window is reserved for viewing the current camera in live or playback mode while on the right hand part there are the settings. Depending on the capabilities of the device, users can increase the volume and perform zoom in and out actions. When in playback mode the application allows moving back and forth a time-line and check the recording for that time frame. Motion detection alert capabilitiesAlerts can be triggered when the camera detects motion and the user is automatically sent an email informing of the activity. The alert can be sent to multiple recipients. Alternatively, there are configuration options for delivering a notification to the desktop; in this case, the computer needs to be running and installed at the same location as the camera. Easy to set up video security systemAlert Commander does not require too much effort to configure and it offers a comprehensive set of options for the average Joe.
