Accu-Reading promotes mastery of specific reading skills by providing short non-fiction selections: drawing conclusions, vocabulary, sequence, inference, main idea and factual recall. This self-paced improvement and management program helps students sharpen their reading skills and lets teachers monitor their students' independent learning. After an assessment, students work on specific skills or learn in a mixed practice format that includes crossword puzzles and two-answer questions. They receive help and contextual feedback. Accu-Reading is a multiple choice program that improves the comprehension skills of students in reading levels 5 - 11. Each unit presents six skills, either one skill at a time or in mixed practice format. In addition, a two-answer question and a crossword puzzle appear at the end of each round. The format of the material allows for the selection, the question, and the multiple choice answers to remain on screen at the same time so that students can refer to the text when choosing an answer. Accu-Reading can be used as well by advanced intermediate ESL students and by adult students. Accu-Reading provides cumulative and current session scores. Students see their scores when they complete a round. Scores may be printed out. Students control reward graphics and sounds. Main features: Each set contains 144 passages and 302 questions. Contextual help and feedback engage students of all ages. Students choose from a menu of reward animations and sounds. All student work is stored in the Teacher Program Manager. Content can be spoken aloud by using the Merit Text Talker.
