vReveal Description

Provides a simplified way to modify and create professionally good-looking videos. The "one-click" function adjusts various features like stabilization, color correction, and noise cleanup. Looking for a program to improve the appearance of videos recorded with a mobile phone, I chanced upon vReveal, a video enhancement tool specially suited for this purpose. Most often, videos recorded with a mobile look blurry, lack definition, and have a lot of noise artifacts and pixelation, even more if lighting conditions are poor. For this review, I used vReveal to improve a dark and blurry MP4 video recorded during a concert, and the result was a noticeably improved video, much cleaner than the original, and ready to be uploaded to the web. vReveal came to replace a web application called FixMyMovie that used to offer an online video enhancement service. It uses a technology called Super Resolution, which basically reconstructs a video by analyzing each one of its frames. This technology is used mostly by forensic labs and intelligence agencies. Using vReveal is a very straightforward task, no experience in video editing is required; in fact, its interface is intuitive enough to let even inexperienced users play with the different enhancement effects. The whole video enhancement procedure can be summarized in three steps: open, enhance, and save. When you launch the program for the first time, it asks you whether you want to scan your drives for videos, or import only those you want to edit. Imported videos are organized into the 'gallery', one of the three program's panels. Once a video is loaded, you can start applying the fixes. There are two edition methods, one is a basic, automatic option called One Click Fix, which applies preset filters to your video. The Fine Tune tab, on the other hand, enables you to customize and adjust every effect and fix parameter in detail. You can, for instance, stabilize shaky videos, adjust brightness and contrast to improve lighting, reduce noise and pixelation, add sharpness to videos lacking definition, adjust colors, and more. The effect set includes options to apply a black and white or sepia effect, apply glow and grain or a vintage look, among others. Changes made to your video are previewed in real time from the built-in video player, and there is even an option to display both the original and the improved video side by side. As for its performance, vReveal proved to be very fast at processing a couple of 5-minute MP4s. And users having CUDA-enabled Nvidia GeForce GPUs can benefit even further, processing video up to 5x faster. Once your are satisfied with the results, you can save your video to your PC in a variety of formats ((WMV, MJPEG AVI, Uncompressed AVI, DivX, and MP4) and also upload your file to YouTube or Facebook right from the program's window.
