simECG Description

Studying medicine is one of the most difficult, yet rewarding activities and even if it takes a long time to successfully go through all the paces, in the end, the feeling of being able to help people and alleviate their hurts is well worth while. As most students probably know, the ability to interpret an ECG correctly is one of the most important things to learn while in training. Those willing to practice at home and hone their skills in this respect, can now try a virtual instrument that acts just like the real equipment. A software solution of this kind is simECG, as it offers a lifelike simulation of electrocardiograms displayed either on paper or on a monitor. Through a nice and friendly interface, this program offers a decent number of features that will help in learning how to correctly assess the results of such a test. There are many built-in presets you can opt for, which include sinus rhythm, junctional rhythm, 1st degree AV block, sinus bradycardia, supraventricular tachycardia and more. Insofar as the general preferences are concerned, unfortunately all you can customize at this time are the background and filters. Nonetheless, there are many settings that can be modified insofar as the electrocardiogram is concerned. Thus, simECG will allow you to input the desired parameters for heart rate, P wave, QRS, PR as well as T wave. The 'Assessment' module of the utility will enable you to test your knowledge by taking a test that consists of 10 questions, each with three possible answers of which you have to pick the correct one. After the time is up (60 seconds), you will receive the final score. To sum things up, simECG is indeed a useful tool that can certainly help when it comes to practicing electrocardiogram interpretation. However, it needs to implement all the features it presents, because at this stage of its development it gives the impression of an incomplete software.
