Flat Assembler is a lightweight Windows application whose purpose is to help assembly programmers carry out multiple passes to optimize the size of the generated machine code. This assembly language compiler can be used with the x86 architecture processors. The utility can be controlled via the command-line console or Windows GUI version.Portable toolFlat Assembler doesn’t need to be installed on your computer as it comes in a portable package which can be deployed on your system by simply running the EXE file. Plus, the tool doesn’t write any entries in the Windows registry and leave configuration data in your computer. You can also copy the program on any USB flash drive or other devices and take it with you whenever you need to work with a flat assembler. User interface and importing/exporting optionsFlat Assembler sports a clean and intuitive GUI that gives you the possibility to work with multiple tabs at the same time. You can import/export data from/to ASM file format. Additionally, you can make use of several keyboard commands in order to move to the beginning or end of the line, jump one page or down, and go to the first or last line of page or text. Editing features and built-in calculatorThe application lets you delete words, characters or lines, duplicate the current line, undo or redo your actions, copy the selected block to the clipboard or paste the block from the clipboard, delete blocks, as well as select all text. Basic editing features are also on the list, as you may cut, copy, paste or remove data. Plus, you may search for text and replace it with other words, compile the project and run it, assign the current file as the main one for being compiled, as well as compile and build symbols. The calculator helps you convert data between decimal, hexadecimal, binary and octal values. Last but not least, you can enable a series of features in the editor, namely secure selection (the selected block never gets deleted when you start writing data), automatic brackets (when you type any of the opening brackets the closing one is automatically placed after caret), automatic indents, smart tabulation, optimal fill on saving (when the file is saved, all blank areas are filled with the optimal combination of tabs and spaces to get the smaller file size), as well as dead keys revival (used for disabling the dead key). Flat Assembler lets you alter the font used in the Editor and colors of the text, background, text selection, background selection, symbols, numbers, strings and comments. Other settings help you alter the memory and set priorities.
