WinGhci Description

WinGhci has been designed only as a graphical user interface for the Glasgow Haskell Interpreter. The application requires some dependencies that include the Glasgow Haskell Compiler.Installation quirks, simple looksThe installation process is far from being seamless. Since there is no executable file to initiate the process, users have to do everything manually; the developer makes available the necessary documentation and a tutorial for carrying out the task. But even so, the entire operation is not to easy to complete. The interface of the application is quite simple, featuring a hefty area for the code and showing useful tools in the upper part. The include an option for running the current script or pausing it. Light functionalityUsers can start typing straight in the editor or load projects from the disk, which can be easily done by simply dragging and dropping the files in the interface. Among the options present in the application there is the possibility to adjust the Rich Edit control font to a more suitable choice. Also, to make working with the editor more comfortable, WinGhci stores the history of the commands that have been issued. Moreover, this feature extends over different sessions because the data is saved in Windows Registry. A search function can be used for quick locating of a specific line or command. Some of the most used commands benefit from keyboard shortcuts, which should appeal to power users. ConclusionAll in all, WinGhci is just a more pleasant way to program using Haskell language. It does not offer increased functionality when it comes to using the compiler but increased comfort for viewing the code lines. Reviewed by Ionut Ilascu, last updated on April 30th, 2014
