WhoIs Winsock Description

WhoIs Winsock is a simple and easy to use application that will help you connect to WhoIs servers and getting them to provide information about a web based computer. Why Would you do this? If you find a server that has been commandeered to send mail, you now need to know who to contact at that server address. The WhoIs listing gives you a phone book like listing ofen including the Names and Addresses of important people who you may RESPECTFULLY contact. Please be respectfull in all your mail! Unfortunately the WhoIs database is NOT accurate or verified like a phone book. On occasions the listing may not be of correct. Use email to contact the appropriate people based on the listings. When sending a complaint letter PLEASE include a copy of the spam mail including the FULL headers for their evaluation. They are performing a free tehnical service for you. These are very busy people, who take their time and skills and knowledge to help you. PLEASE, treat them with great respect and keep your messages short and polite. Expect that you may or may not receive a response and that your response may be automated. In my experience, you WILL see results one way or another, if your complaint is justified. Regional Whois Servers such as Arin, Ripe and Apnic will respond only to IpAddresses. Some local Registries such as Intenic require a server NAME and not an IpAddress. The 3 Regional Servers distribute the registry listings to other more local servers to share the rapidly growing listings. Start at one of the Regional Registries and you will get a referral to a local server or possibly a different Regional Registry. There is a large listing of registries available from the drop down box. If you do not find the one you need you may type one in at the top of the list box. For example: You might start your search at ARIN (The American Region) and get a referral to Lacnic in Latin America from Lacnic you will possibly find your server information or you may even be referred to a more local registry in Brazil! Follow the path and you will track down your server. The local server will often be able to supply you with the detailed information you need. For a current listing of registries: Pressing the list servers button will also get you a current listing of servers courtesy of MIT.
