WebBrowserPassView is a lightweight and portable application designed to retrieve lost or forgotten web browser passwords hidden under asterisks. It offers support for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari. For example, you can use it to view passwords for your Facebook, Twitter, Gmail or Yahoo! accounts, as long as they are stored in one of the supported web browsers.Why opt for portable programsAs installation is not a prerequisite, you can simply drop the executable file anywhere on the hard disk and click it to run. There is also the possibility of saving WebBrowserPassView to a USB flash drive or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any workstation without previous installers. What's more, the tool does not add new entries to the Windows registry, Start menu or other location on the disk. A standard file deletion is enough to remove it. Simple looksThe interface is based on a standard window with a neat layout, where all found passwords are automatically loaded at initialization. You can check out their matching URL, web browser and user name. Exporting optionsIt is possible to copy all or just the selected items to the Clipboard, or export them to a report with the HTML format, as well as choose the columns to include in the report. Several configuration settings to play withWebBrowserPassView allows users to tinker with some options. They can exclude web browsers from the password retrieval database, enter the Firefox master password if it exists (it is mandatory to recover keys), as well as point out the paths to the Firefox profile and installation files, Chrome user data folder and Opera wand.dat file. Performance and final thoughtThe application has a minimal impact on system performance, using a low amount of CPU and RAM. It has a good response time and creates a report rapidly and error-free. We have not experienced any issues throughout our evaluation, since WebBrowserPassView did not hang or crash.
