Vorbis Ogg DSF Description

Vorbis Ogg DSF installs a DirectShow-compliant implementation of Ogg Vorbis, enabling you to manipulate media files and multimedia streams. The DirectShow filter enables you to work with the popular Ogg Vorbis media encoder in order to process audio anf video files. In recent versions of Windows such as Vista and 7, DirectShow is replaced by Media Foundation in order to perform media-related operations much easier. Delivered inside a lightweight package, it contains four filters that come in handy to anyone for audio and video editing endeavors. All components have suggestive names that betrade their purpose. In random order, these are: Ogg Splitter, Ogg Multiplexer, Vorbis Encoder and Vorbis Decoder. The Ogg Splitter component aims to help you split a OGG file into its corresponding streams without much effort, whereas the Ogg Multiplexer can combine several OGG streams into a single signal. Thanks to the Vorbis Encoder, one can easily encode audio streams represented in pulse-code modulation (PCM) to Vorbis, providing support for both constant and variable bit rates. The reverse operation is performed by the Vorbis Decoder, which can decode Vorbis audio signals to PCM or IEEE float. Initially, Vorbis Ogg DSF was implemented by writing an ACM driver, but getting the audio and video signals synchronized was very difficult. The new approach was to include a video stream into OGG, in order to avoid problems caused by the AVI architecture. Vorbis Ogg DSF enables you to take advantage of the power of the Ogg Vorbis encoder in order to process audio and video streams.
