Tubularix Description

Tubularix is an open source game based on one of the most famous puzzle games, Tetris. Instead of the classic layout, Tubularix uses 'tubular perspective', a 12-faced cylinder where you need to arrange the falling blocks. At first sight, the game looks quite complex, but if your observe the gameplay a bit, you will instantly notice it follows the exact same rules as the original game, only the layout changes. The idea is to place the falling blocks in the tube in a such a way so as to form lines and make them disappear, all this while you prevent the rows of blocks from reaching the edges of the tube. You only need to use the keyboard arrows to move and position the blocks. Also, it's possible to control the game with the mouse. Besides the main game type, Tubularix offers additional playing modes that you can select from the toolbar. There are some interesting variations to try, for example, the inverted Tubularix, inverted Tetris, and other versions without 'the walls'. You're even allowed to choose the number of rows and columns for the tube and the game level. It also includes a two-player mode letting you compete either against a human opponent or AI, on the same computer or through a network. One feature I found more than interesting is that nearly every aspect of the game is easily customizable, from its appearance (background and blocks colors) to the blocks rotation style, and game controls. In short, Tubularix is an original version of a game that is always challenging and fun. It looks great, has several game modes, and is free, so all Tetris fans should definitely give it a try.
