Top Video Sound Extractor Description

As the name of this software suggests, Top Video Sound Extractor allows you to extract the audio stream from video clips (e.g. ASF, AVI, MOV, RM, WMV) and convert it to MP3, WAV, OGG and WMA. But it can also encode sound files (MP3, WMA, OGG). The interface of the application is easy to work with. Audio and video files can be opened by using only the file browser because the "drag and drop" functionality is not supported. This program does not allow you to process items in batch mode. The quickest way to perform a conversion task is by establishing the output directory and file type. Evidently, this implies the use of default settings. But audio properties can be changed when it comes to the number of channels, bit rate, quality, variable bit rate, sample rate, bits per sample, along with minimum and maximum bit rate. On top of that, you can preview clips in a built-in media player and cut them by marking the start and end time, edit file information, as well as set the output directory and temporary folder. The audio extraction app finishes a task in a short time while using a moderate amount of system resources. No error dialogs have popped up during our testing and Top Video Sound Extractor did not freeze or crash. The tool has a good response time, contains a help file and maintains a good sound quality. On the other hand, you cannot set Top Video Sound Extractor to minimize to the system tray or to exit once the task has been completed, as well as allow multiple instances or specify the number of CPU cores it can use. The fact that batch processing is not allowed is a big disadvantage. Plus, the interface is flat and we were unsuccessful in out attempt to preview some videos (ASF and WMV) although Top Video Sound Extractor had no trouble with their conversion. However, we must take into consideration the fact that the application has never received any updates. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on October 27th, 2012
