Syslogger Description

Syslogger is a lightweight and portable software application designed as a temporary server solution for moments when the regular syslog server is unavailable, thus permitting users to run simple deployments. Since there is no setup pack involved, you can drop the executable file to a custom location on the hard disk and just click it to run. The Windows registry does not get updated with new entries. Otherwise, it is possible to save Syslogger to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any workstation easily, without previous installers. Note that the device must not be write-protected, as the tool creates log files in the same directory. The user-friendly interface is based on a small window with a plain and simple layout. It does not contain any attractive elements but is easy to configure. All you have to do is specify an IP address to listen to, along with a UDP port, as well as establish a name for the log file (TXT format). While the server is running you can view total received logs. There are no other notable options provided by the app. Syslogger minimizes to the taskbar, so you can carry on with normal activity. It has a good response time and barely uses CPU and RAM, thus it is not a concern to the computer's overall performance. No error dialogs were shown in our testing, and the app did not hang or crash. To sum it up, Syslogger is a handy little application for replacing a syslog server temporarily, and it should please all users. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on November 4th, 2013
