Steganos LockNote is a lightweight, straightforward and open-source tool that allows you to write notes in a secured environment. It can be easily handled, even by less experienced individuals. This is a portable app, so installing Steganos LockNote is not necessary. It means that you can store the tool on a USB flash drive or any other removable device, save it to any computer and directly run its executable file. What's more important is that the Windows registry does not receive new entries and no leftover files can be found after deleting the program. The interface of the tool is based on a standard window where you can write text or paste it from the Clipboard and specify an output directory and filename, in order to save the new file with a password. Therefore, LockNote password-protected files can be opened on any computer without having to install any tool. For example, you can send an encrypted file to a friend online. In addition, you can use the cut, copy, search and replace functions, as well as change the font style and size. From the 'Help' menu you can visit the developer's website. The simple-to-use application needs a low amount of CPU and system memory, has a good response time and is pretty stable. We have not come across any issues during our tests; Steganos LockNote did not freeze, crash or pop up error dialogs.
