It is a common situation when applications have to tell you something if something goes wrong; internal error or important event occured; whatever. There are many reasons when a program should report about such events. Desktop programs can display a message on the screen, beep or cry in speakers. What about numerous services and background applications that work hard on your behalf. The smartest of them can write information into a file or a system event journal and you then can try to read all this jumble later (maybe too late!) string by string to figure out what, where and when.
