Siren Description

Siren is an easy-to-use and portable program that can rename, move and copy a large number of files to other locations, based on a user-defined set of rules. It may sound complicated to work with, but the neatly organized interface and hints simplify the entire process. Since there it no installation involved, you can extract the program files to any location on the hard disk and just click the executable to run. There is also the possibility of saving Siren to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any computer with minimum effort and no previous installers. An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry does not get updated with new entries, and files are not left behind on the hard disk after program removal. Thanks to the Explorer-based folder structure, you can comfortably explore directories whose contained files you want to rename, copy, or move. After making a file selection, an expression must chosen for the next step. For example, audio tracks can be renamed by taking their ID3 tags into account, while image files can be renamed according to their EXIF information. Photographs and tags can be previewed in a small panel within the main frame. It is possible to copy the selected list of files (with headers) or current names to the Clipboard, use a search function with filters, highlight selected files, create and organize a favorites list, as well as associate the current expression to a tool. Although Siren's main features are intuitive enough to be used by novices, those more experienced have some advanced tools at hand. The program carries out a task quickly and uses low CPU and RAM in the meantime. It has a good response time and works smoothly. No errors were shown during evaluation, and the program did not freeze or crash. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on December 30th, 2013
