Sherlock Description

Sherlock is a lightweight and portable application which can identify codec-related problems of your computer. It can be seamlessly used, even by less experienced individuals. Since there is no installation package available, you can store Sherlock on a USB flash drive or any other external device, save it to any computer and directly run its executable file. Therefore, you can check the codec status of any system. What's more important is that the Windows Registry is not updated with new entries, and no leftover files can be found on the hard drive after program removal. The interface of Sherlock is based on a standard window where you can check out a list of all installed audio and video codecs, which automatically loads after program initialization. Simply select which codecs type you want to view from the drop-down list. Important codecs which are missing from the computer are highlighted in red, so you can quickly identify them. After selecting an item from the list, you can view specific information, such as the driver location, codec version, and last date of modification. But you can also check out system information when it comes to the CPU clock speed, total memory, DirectX version and others. These details may be printed or saved to a plain text document (TXT) for further analysis. Sherlock runs on a very low amount of CPU and system memory, so it shouldn't put a strain on the computer. It has a good response time and worked smoothly in our tests, without freezing, crashing or popping up error dialogs; we haven't come across any problems. All in all, Sherlock should come to the aid of all movie fans or users who frequently work with video processing tools. No recent updates have been made.
