SelfControl Description

SelfControl is one of the ways that you can use to restrict access to various websites, preventing them to distract you while working. It functions as an addon for your Firefox browser, which is capable of automatically blocking user-defined URLs during a specific time interval. This extension could prove useful to any user who is tempted to waste valuable time during working hours, acting as an incentive for temperance and personal restraint. However, it gives you the freedom to choose whether you want it to block your access to some webpages or disable its actions completely to allow navigation to all websites. Once installed in the browser, it places a big button right next to the search box, which has the function to enable or deactivate warnings. Configuring the addon's behavior can be done by opening the 'Options' window of Firefox, available in the 'Tools' menu. For your convenience, SelfControl automatically copies the currently visited to the URL field, leaving all the other options to you. Alternatively, you can enter a simple keyword in this field and SelfControl will scan the URL in the address bar for matches. All the website addresses that contain the keyword are immediately blocked. A complete list of all the entered keywords and website pages is also displayed, along with their corresponding access restriction time interval. Existing records can be edited or deleted, while adding new ones is very easy. Unfortunately, SelfControl has not received updates for a long time and its compatibility range is limited to older versions of Firefox. As such, you cannot use it with the latest browser editions, which most users might consider a serious drawback. Provided you are stuck on an older version of the Firefox browser, SelfControl can be of use for imposing browsing restrictions during specific time intervals.
