Revelator Description

The Revelator Grayscale-to-Color application was designed to accentuate faint but nevertheless important details embodied in grayscale images. The process converts grayscale images to color in accordance with a transformation palette. Palettes are created using a simple text editor. For this purpose, program PalEd is supplied as a component of Revelator. Colors used to highlight a subject's details may or may not bear resemblance with their natural hues; the principal aim being to make indistinct objects more conspicuous. Revelator also incorporates flexible reverse processing - that is, color-to-grayscale transformation. Applications of Revelator Grayscale-to-color include color washes of grayscale images to improve their aesthetic value. Industrial and research activities often apply pseudo colors to grayscale pictures so that faint delineations become more apparent. And, astronomy is another field where grayscale images are colored to great effect. But there are probably many instances where pictures need scrutinizing carefully, otherwise important information can be overlooked. This may be the intention in some graphic presentations - that is, to hide certain detail from the casual viewer. Illustrations of such possibilities are demonstrated here. Full documentation is available by clicking the Revelator title box inside the control panel at the top left-hand side of the Revelator screen (depicted in the Screen Shot) that appears when Revelator is started. Requirements: ■ Pentiums 2, 4 or AMD Athlon machines. ■ 1024 x 768 pixels and True color 32bit display.
