Pros: Restore My Files is data recovery software. Files lost due formatting of hard drive, virus infections, unexpected shutdowns or software failure or emptied from recycle bin by mistake or it might have been bypassed altogether; there are several ways you may lose a critical file. Windows Shift-delete will cause these direct deletions, command line deletions also bypass the recycle bin. Use the restore My Files to recover the deleted or lost files, graphics files, music files, zip files or whatever. When the recycle bin is emptied or deletions happen bypassing the bin Windows cannot recover the files thus lost. You need this utility then. It will try to recover the content that has not been overwritten by other files. It tries to salvage the parts overwritten. There are some important features that help implement this functionality. Raid scan that helps the application scan a hard drive in minutes for locating recoverable files is one of the most important ones. Using a read only non destructive approach for recovery is another one of these features. It never writes anything in the file areas that is being recovered. Batch operation is possible for recovering multiple files in one go. IDE/ ATA/ SCSI interface drives are supported while files systems supported are FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS. USB external drives, ZIP drives, Flash drives et al are supported. Cons: Recovery should be attempted as soon as a problem is detected as there is no way overwritten data can be recovered.
