ParetoLogic EasyFileViewer claims to be able to open nearly any file stored in your computer, saving you time and the fuss of having to look for the right program required to open a specific file. The types of files supported are three - text-based files (Microsoft Office files, XML, HTML, etc.), archive files (such as ZIP and RAR), and image files, including TIFF, JPG, and PNG. By testing the trial version provided by the developer all you will be able to assess is the program's ability to show you a tiny corner of certain types of files. If the file selected is not supported you will get a message letting you know that the program cannot perform its magic. But this magic is so limited, that it is - in fact - extremely disappointing. Understandable as it is that developers want to protect their applications from unlawful use, providing such a severely crippled version for evaluation is, to put it mildly, a waste of everybody's time. The fact that I can see a small corner of a photograph or a fraction of a text document is no guarantee that the program can successfully open and show the user large or complicated files in an acceptable way. There are certainly many other ways of protecting the use of trial and demo versions of software programs, such as by adding a time limitation, by controlling the number of times the program is launched, or by limiting the number of documents you can open with it - certainly a better alternative for a program like this one.
