PDLII Description

This application will enable you in designing and Avanti PDLII Quad antenna. The Avanti PDLII Quad (tm) of the 70's was known for its great performance. The secret of the design was to drive the quad with a folded dipole known as co-inductive (tm) feed. The dipole could be horizontal or vertical. With both, there is enough isolation of currents that you could feed the dipoles with 2 feed lines and switch between horizontal and vertical polarization to work local or dx. The driven dipoles are insulated from the boom and the reflector did have aluminium spreaders with insulated ends. The folds of the dipoles were made in curves that were grounded to the boom and feed by gamma matches. The curves could be made a little longer for the horizontal to match the antenna at the lower end of the band where most horizontal dx is done. This was found on the 10 meter version. Co-inductive and PDL-II are trademarks and this antenna is most certainly covered by patents. You are allowed to build a not for monetary gain, experimental version for yourself.
