PDF Shrink Description

PDF Shrink is a simple software application that helps you shrink PDF files by compressing any images they contain, using the JPEG2000 or JBIG2 method. This tool does not require installation, meaning that you can easily copy the program files to any location on the hard drive in order to run it. You can also drop them to a portable storage unit, such as a USB flash drive, so as to use PDF Shrink on any computer that you might have access to. In addition to that, it is important to know that the Windows registry and Start menu/screen are not going to get updated with new entries. The interface has quite a modern design and is built on multiple tabs, which make navigating through this software tool easy. It is also highly intuitive, meaning that any type of person can work with it, regardless of their previous experience. The options panel enables you to modify the compression settings, such as picture width/height limit and compression rate, save the PDF content as black-and-white JBIG2 or JPEG2000 pictures, and use dithering for black and white conversion. When dealing with color palette images, you can use true color or flate compression. The first tab enables you to use a folder structure to select PDF-containing directories for processing. PDF Shrink permits batch conversion, a feature that enhances usability. To sum up, PDF Shrink is a piece of software which lets you shrink PDF files, thus making them easier to manage. CPU and memory usage is minimal, and the app is portable. Reviewed by Madalina Boboc, last updated on November 18th, 2013
