MapsTiler Description

MapsTiler is a very handy, easy-to-use, small and reliable Windows tool for converting large images for easy viewing and navigation on a pda device or handheld computer. The source can be in gif, tiff, jpg, png or now even in pdf format. The image is tiled in smaller pieces and a set of html files is created to allow the navigation through the pieces. This is specially useful with digital maps, which offer the added benefit that can be color-reduced without losing significant detail, thus making them achieve higher compression ratios. If the set of html files is afterwards converted to a compressed file in Plucker or iSilo format, the final file can be even smaller than the original image. Note that you need the corresponding tool to convert the html files to a compressed file viewable in a handheld. For Pocket PC users there is a viewer of Plucker documents called Vade Mecum. Those who just want to convert a pdf file to a single image file can also use this little tool to do that (installing ghostscript as well, see below). To do that, use the "Lock to image size" option in order to get a single image and then set the image size as desired. The resulting file is an html file with the image file (jpg, png or gif) in the corresponding subfolder. Requirements: ■ The tool makes use of the GraphicsMagick library and optionally GhostScript for pdf files. So you need to install them before being able to run MapsTiler.
