MTAPER Description

MTAPER is a simple tool that implements the calculations for accurately measuring the included angle of a conical part using a precision V-block and a sine bar. Machinery's Handbook outlines a procedure for accurately measuring the included angle of a tapered cylindrical part. In the 23rd edition it's on page 685. Basically, the tapered part is placed on a precision V-block whose V angle (D) is known. The V-block is placed on a sine bar and the sine bar stack adjusted until an indicator swept across the top of the part shows no deviation. Knowing the V block angle (D) and the sine bar angle (B), the included angle of the tapered part (A) can be found from a moderately complex formula (which the program implements). Also found is the angle (C) between the part centerline and the surface of the sine bar.
