ImProVis Description

This project focuses on the development of a Java software for efficient and fast 2D/3D image processing, visualization and analysis. Among current free and non-free softwares, focus on computation performance often evicts important aspects such as code readability, user-interface design, software usability or memory consumption. There are also very few softwares out there which focus also on end-users with little programming knowledge, who also wish to do things fast and efficiently, not just easily. The goal of Improvis is to provide a simple yet efficient framework of tools for visualizing 2D and 3D images & sequences efficiently and performing image processing and analysis tasks with only very basic programming knowledge. Image data structures are optimized for fast and repetitive pixel access (which is what image processing algorithms do 95% of the time), and plugins may seemlessly rely on native code or parallel architectures to speed-up computations. Finally, high-level analysis plugins can be created directly from the graphical interface by assembling low-level plugins together into a macro. Macros are intended to be published on a public server, allowing users to benefit from community manpower to perform efficient tasks without even touching the code. Get ImProVis and give it a go to see what it's all about!
