Gmote Server Description

Gmote Server is the server side application that together with the Gmote client utility installed on an Android-powered device, enables you to use your handset as a remote controller for your computer. The server is the tool that can set up the connection between the phone and the PC, allowing the computer to recognize the Gmote client application and activate the remote controlling functionality. What you can actually do using the Gmote package is run movies and music files from distance, without using the computer mouse or the keyboard. The Gmote Android app features basic playback commands, such as play, pause, stop, rewind, navigating back and forth throughout a playlist or volume adjustment. In order to protect your privacy and prevent the server from being accessed by other devices, Gmote Server prompts you to assign it a password that can be then easily changed from the tray menu. The server runs silently in the system tray and waits for a client app to initiate a connection. The application enables you to define the location of your movies and your music. The folders you select can be then accessed using the file browser of the client app. Right-clicking on the tray icon of Gmote Server opens up a menu where you can change the paths of the multimedia folders and shuffle the songs with just a click. Gmote Server provides you with a simple means of controlling your default player with the help of an Android phone, supporting all the multimedia controls that you require. You can even go in another room and have the computer play the next track or turn the volume up with the push of a button. Reviewed by Mihaela Citea, last updated on November 16th, 2013
