Facebook(er) Description

Facebook(er) provides social network addicts with yet another application created for the sole purpose of keeping you updated with the events within your Facebook account. This particular widget serves a social network with over one billion users worldwide, thus there is no shortage in similar applications available on the market. Although Yahoo! has discontinued its Widget Engine (formerly known as Konfabulator), many websites still host the installation kit, thus you can easily deploy it to your system and run Facebook(er) in no time at all. Once you open it, the widget asks for authorization in order to connect to your Facebook profile and populate its interface with the latest news on your wall. This process is mandatory and puts your patience to the test, because Facebook makes it harder for such programs to access accounts every single day. You will be required to enter a session ID as well as a secret code for the authorization operation to be successfully completed. These have to be entered within the configuration panel of Facebook(er). Customizing your view can be easily done in the Display area, as the widget helps you set the number of friends to be shown, the background color, opacity or font color. The Refresh Rate section also grants you access to setting the amount of time between refreshing your personal information including Inbox messages or Pokes as well as the friend list. This way, you are able to be permanently connected with your Facebook profile, right on your very own desktop. Being a Yahoo! Widget and Facebook fan, there is only one way to brings the best of these two worlds together and Facebook(er) is that way. Other than that, this application has no real reason to exist. With Yahoo! discontinuing their support for the Widget Engine, the crowd gets smaller and smaller. Reviewed by Alexandru Pintilie, last updated on April 18th, 2013
