Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET) is the popular security tool created by Microsoft to assist advanced users in tweaking and controlling every little security aspect of their Windows systems. EMET is suitable for being used to protect both business and personal data. It is capable of protecting against cyberattacks by tracing down and blocking attempts to exploit memory corruption vulnerabilities, and it can also protect against new and undiscovered threats that security updates, antiviruses or antimalware software can't deal with yet. EMET will perform a couple of tweaks that increase the power and efficiency of the defense provided by other security tools, such as Windows Defender, antivirus software, and other common Microsoft and third-party applications. It does that by offering preset protection profiles which contain pre-configured settings. Some examples of these are Attack Surface Reduction (ASR) Mitigation, NullPage Security Mitigation, Data Execution Prevention (DEP) Security Mitigation, or even the one concerning Windows 10 untrusted fonts. This tool is more suitable for IT security engineers and other enterprise IT professionals as it can be integrated and used through Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager to apply Group Policies in Windows Active Directory, and as it includes mitigations that should only be applied by experienced users, such as the Heapspray Allocation Security Mitigation or the Bottom Up ASLR Security Mitigation. Anyway, the interface is rather self-explanatory, so even less experienced users should be able to handle EMET. To sum it all up, EMET is an acknowledged tool that helps protect Windows OS in a wide range of scenarios, and obtaining it won't cost you a thing as it's also a free solution.
