ChatZilla Description

ChatZilla is a Firefox extension that provides you with an IRC client that allows you to chat and exchange files with other users. As far as installation goes, it doesn't differ from that of any other extension. Either add it from the browser or drag and drop it into Firefox from your desktop. After that, you simply launch it from the browser's ‘Tools’ menu. To use ChatZilla, you connect to one of the available networks, find a channel that interests you and join in on the conversation. It’s not required that you go through any customization of whatsoever when you run it for the first time. Everything works just fine with the default settings. Even your nickname is set to be your Windows user account name. ChatZilla displays a comprehensive interface that makes it very easy to use. The main window is separated into three sections: the user list, text input field and the actual discussion area where content is displayed. The application also provides you with various commands that you can use to open a private chat, get information about a fellow user, as well as create a direct chat with another person. You can even send and receive files. If you are already familiar with this kind of application and have some coding skills, you are able to use JavaScript to enhance its functionality by creating and adding plugins. ChatZilla allows you to make various configurations that apply to specific channels and networks that will take effect whenever you connect to them. You can even set a different motif for each channel. These are CSS files that describe how the chat view is displayed. All in all, the way ChatZilla works helps keep alive one of the first ever means of communicating across the Internet. It’s this simple and straightforward approach that still makes it fun.
