Book2Shelf Description

Book2Shelf is a free e-book organizer and cataloging tool for FictionBook documents (FB2), with some conversion capabilities. It incorporates other free tools related to this XML-based e-book format, thus offering you a convenient reader (based on Haali Reader) and the possibility of encoding TXT files into FictionBook using Any 2 FB2. This tool, specially designed for PocketPC users, is a virtual bookshelf to help you keep your e-book collection organized. Thus, you can use all the metadata stored in your BSF index files to create your own library, ordering all the entries by author, title, and grouping them by subject or genre. You can also perform different queries, and create and use your own filters for more precise results. The reader included in this program is based on the popular Haali Reader, and with it you can open and enjoy any TXT or FB2 book in your collection. Here is where all the beauty of XML tagging can be fully appreciated, as you move through the structure of documents quickly and accurately. You can also add bookmarks to your books (which you can also use to navigate through the text) and search for any block of text within a book. As attractive as this product may seem to PocketPC users, it is important to note that not all the functions advertised work as seamlessly as they should, namely the import/conversion tool. Having installed all the required extra components, and repeatedly tried both the current Alpha version (0.9.111, the basis of this review) and the previous stable version (0.9.56), the TXT to FB2 conversion failed at each and every file used. Book2Shelf uses Any 2 FB2 as the conversion engine needed to produce FictionBook documents, but while this tool - used in its standalone version – usually works like a charm, it keeps finding irresolvable errors in all plain text files during conversion. Trying to import already built FB2 books is equally frustrating, as they all get labeled as “broken” by the program. Putting these discouraging results down only to the software may not be totally fair, but the lack of help documents to guide inexperienced users prevents us from solving these unexpected problems.
