BestReader Description

BestReader is an interesting piece of software aimed at helping you improve your reading skills. By repeatedly doing the three exercises this application offers you, you will see your reading comprehension and technique gradually improve, allowing you to read and understand more words in less time. Its different levels of difficulty and the possibility of personalizing the various parameters involved in each exercise make this tool suitable for all users and useful for anyone who wishes to read more and better. The offered tests are based on two main concepts – speed and field of sight. They are closely connected, and you need to work hard on both of them to achieve your goal. BestReader includes two exercises specifically designed to improve these. The first one will show you a small bar with a red dot in the middle and a pair of two-digit numbers – one at each side of the dot - changing at the speed of your choice. While looking fixedly at the dot, you will have to use your peripheral view to keep track of the numbers as they appear. The exercise will stop at some point and will cover the numbers - you are supposed to remember the last pair of numbers shown. The second is based on a similar principle – it uses a table whose changing cells contain numbers that you are asked to remember at some point. In all cases, you decide how hard you want to be on yourself by speeding up or down the frequency at which numbers change, or by defining the dimensions of the table. The third exercise deals directly with the act of reading itself. After loading one of the texts provided, you need to define how narrow or how wide you want the field of sight to be. Typically, you should start with a width of 12-15 characters per line, and increase the number of characters gradually. The program will highlight the words to show you the speed you should be reading them according to the pace selected. All in all, BestReader looks like a well-thought training tool that might help you improve your reading technique and speed, thus saving you valuable time. It certainly looks like a hard thing to achieve, but its customizable parameters guarantee that you are always the one in charge. And do not forget - practice makes perfect.
