Avatar Sizer Description

Avatar Sizer is a small tool designed to help you shrink your images to the size of an avatar, according to the requirements of a specific forum.Wizard-like GUI and supported file formatsThe user interface consists of a plain wizard that allows you to rescale BMP, ICO, JPG, EMF, WMF and GIF image files. Configuration settingsOnce you have added the source file (the "drag and drop" method is not supported), you can set the maximum width and height of the output image (with limits between 1 and 150), adjust a slider bar for the image quality, and save results (to JPEG or GIF). Where it falls shortThe program comes with some downsides as well. For instance, once you have added an image to be resized, you cannot view its original size. In case of GIF image files, only the first frame will be used, so the program cannot actually resize an animation. When you adjust the slider bar of the quality, you should be able to preview the output image, but this didn't work in our case (the image quality didn't change). However, differences can be clearly seen in two output files, with one being converted at 1% quality, and the other at 100%. These differences can also be noticed in their size. PerformanceOn the other hand, although the program is extremely easy to use, it comes with guidelines every step of the way. It also uses a very low amount of system resources and didn't freeze or crash during our tests. Bottom lineWe would like to see a portable edition of the program (since it is such a small application), as well as support for batch rescale and additional input and output image formats. Nevertheless, Avatar Sizer does its job very well. Reviewed by Elena Opris, last updated on August 9th, 2014
