Pros: This is a free application that can record audio from various sources. In fact, it can record anything that the sound card in your machine can play. Save the recordings directly into MP3, WMA or WAV file formats. Any source that can be picked up via the microphone, line-in or downloaded from internet can be recorded into the one of the formats described. Thus internet radio or any other audio sources that can be streamed and played through the sound card can be recorded easily. External sounds can be picked up through the microphone as can be the audio from an external source such as a music/cassette/LP player and that has an output that can be hooked into the line in input of the machine. While recording from the vinyl LPs, CDs or cassettes the silence detection can let you segment tracks easily. Converting cassette based audio, not only saves them from damage it becomes easier to navigate through a recording. That is particularly useful with instructional material and audio books where you might want to review specific sections of the material. Once recorded what is really useful is the edit tool box available with the application. It provides a visual interface where two tracks of sound recorded is displayed as a composite waveform. The tool box has the features that lets you do cut and paste like editing of the audio recorded. Batch conversion, text to speech and file merger are some other additional facilities that are useful.
