ActEdit Description

ActEdit is a handy, easy to use editor for ACT-R-models providing a 3D-Desktop to arrange the production rules. ActEdit can be used to create new models but also to create layouts of rule-production dependencies of already existing models. Each rule is represented as an item on the 3D-desktop. The viewpoint on the desktop can be varied. The items can be moved by drag an drop on the desktop and can be put on top of each other. Arrows between items can be added to visualize relations between rules. Whenever an item is selected the code of the corresponding production rule is displayed and can be edited in a text editor on the left of the desktop. The simulation code can be edited in the text editor of a separate tab. The model can be saved and then be loaded into the ACT-R simulation environment. The facility to visualize production dependencies helps to structure and understand the code of ACT-R models. The 3D interface is only a gadget where I tested how such an 3D-interface can be realized using VRML/X3D and OAW Sdk.
