On-Pace GPS/SMT is a personal course management system that allows you to map any golf course in the world and then track a GPS-enabled Android device (smartphone or tablet) online and with cellphones, displaying accurate YARDAGES and PACE-OF-PLAY status. The objective is to demonstrate how mobile technology can be applied to pace-of-play, and ultimately to assist those players and course managers who want to address one of the most persistent problems facing the golf industry today - slow play and its resulting conflicts. How it Works: The key component is the app you download into your Android device (let's call this device a "cart"). This program continuously reads GPS data and calculates the cart's position in relation to targets contained in its database. These targets consist of green location, pace-of-play, and hazard waypoints for the hole you are playing. To repeat, the targets used by the cart to calculate its position and pace must be stored in its own database - and this is where you come in ... *** YOUR COURSE MUST FIRST BE MAPPED *** Mapping can be done anytime on any PC or MAC using our free course mapping tool. So what's required is about an hour of your time to map your own course - which can actually be quite interesting and satisfying, especially when it comes to mapping your personal "hazard" and "lay-up" positions. When this is done, a transfer file is generated which is downloaded once into the cart. Using this data, and the GPS input, the yardages and pace-of-play status are continuously displayed on the cart and then (if tracking is enabled) are transmitted over the internet to our server. On our server the data is processed in a way that makes it freely available to anybody with a computer or mobile device connected to the internet. Positions and pace can be tracked on any computer, under the Google Earth terms of service. This same live pace-of-play information, in both summary and detail format, can also be accessed by any smartphone or browser-enabled cellphone. In other words, the cart position and pace-of-play status of the golf course becomes easily accessable, comprehensive and instantaneous. Compatible Phones/Tablets: Android devices (version 2.1 plus) with GPS and so-called normal (480X320) and large (800X480) screens are supported. The app will automatically adjust to both platforms. Extra-large (1024X600) screens will be supported soon. Browsers and Plugins: Google Chrome only. On Windows PCs only Google Chrome is supported. Same for the Mac at this time, although Safari will be supported soon. If you haven't already, please download Chrome. You don't have to delete your current browser if you don't want to - just download and use Chrome. Most likely, you will be glad you did. If you do not already have the Google Earth Plugin installed, you will see a download link from Google when you first encounter a map request. Or you can download it anytime, direct from Google.
