Locate! Description

Locate! tells you where you are in latitude/longitude and MGRS coordinates. When you set a waypoint, it also tells you the bearing and distance to that waypoint. To round it off, it shows the magnetic variation (also called declination) at your current location as determined by the World Magnetic Model (WMM).Highlights:- All information compiled on one page for easy access.- Streamlined for one-handed operation for most functions.- Gesture-based navigation to take advantage of device capabilities.- No-nonsense, simple functionality.- Does not need a data connection, only GPS.- 4 color themes, including a red one that should preserve night vision a little better.- Control screen brightness- Import KML files (let me know if you run into trouble here)- Displays time and date in your local format or date-time-group (DTG)Caveats:Locate! is not a turn-by-turn navigation app; there are no maps. Instead, it is a companion to your map and compass and fairly useless without those. It also doesn't use the built-in compass for heading or magnetic declination information because it is not accurate enough. Use a proper compass.What you can do:See http://locate.zerodeviation.net/#howto for an annotated screenshot, or read on!- swipe up to add the current location as waypoint.- swipe left to edit, set, or create waypoints.- swipe right to select a theme and control brightness.- double tap on the magnetic variation or bearing to toggle between degrees and mils (1/6400 of a circle).- double tap on the latitude or longitude to toggle between decimal degrees and minute/seconds.- triple tap the bearing to toggle between standard bearing and corrected bearing. The corrected bearing takes into account the magnetic variation, so just point your compass to the corrected bearing and you'll end up at the waypoint.- double tap the time to toggle between your local time and Date-Time Group (DTG)- double tap anywhere else to toggle between ft/mi and m/km.- in the list of all the waypoints, long press on a waypoint to edit it. Hit the plus icon in the top right to add a new one. Swipe right on a waypoint and confirm to remove it.Please contact me if you find bugs or have ideas for improving it.
