mpop Description

Free and open source POP3 client for your Mac mpop is a POP3 client: it retrieves mail from POP3 mailboxes.mpop runs on a wide variety of platforms. It needs little more than an ANSI C compiler and Berkeley-style sockets.Supported platforms include: MacOS X, OpenDarwin, GNU/Linux (glibc, uclibc or dietlibc), Free/Net/OpenBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Cygwin on Win32, Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003, MS-DOS/FreeDOS DJGPP Watt32.Thanks to gnulib and the GNU autotools, porting mpop to new platforms is not much work. mpop does not need any additional libraries, but it can use the following to enhance its feature set:· GnuTLS (>=1.2.0): The GnuTLS library provides TLS/SSL support. It is highly recommended.· OpenSSL (>=0.9.6): OpenSSL is supported as an alternative to GnuTLS.· GNU SASL (>=0.2.4): Using the GNU SASL library adds support for the GSSAPI, DIGEST-MD5, and NTLM authentication methods. (The methods USER/PASS, APOP, PLAIN, LOGIN, and CRAM-MD5 are always supported).· GNU Libidn: Support for Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) is available if you have GNU Libidn installed. Here are some key features of "mpop": · Header based mail filtering: filter junk mail before downloading it. · Delivery to mbox files, maildir folders, or a mail delivery agent (MDA). Delivery with SMTP is possible by using an appropriate MDA, for example msmtp. · Fast POP3 implementation using command pipelining. · Authentication methods USER/PASS, APOP, PLAIN, LOGIN, CRAM-MD5, DIGEST-MD5, GSSAPI, and NTLM. · TLS/SSL both in POP3-over-SSL mode and in STARTTLS mode. Full certificate trust checks can be performed. A client certificate can be sent. · Support for multiple POP3 accounts. · Support for Internationalized Domain Names (IDN). · IPv6 support. What's New in This Release: · Update gnulib to 2009-04-11. · Update gnulib to 2009-03-07. Remove gnulib modules fseek/fseeko/lseek because they cause errors on MinGW: files opened with "r+" cannot be written to. Provide our own fseeko instead if it does not exist; see configure.ac. · Improve test for non-existing UIDLS file. · Fix an invalid memory access in pop3_retr(). · Document that maildir delivery requires a file system that supports hard links. · Use more gnulib modules to remove more W32 workarounds from the source. · Add missing gnulib module strerror for meaningful error messages on W32.
