Easily create bitmapped textures Semicuro is a free and open source, Java-based application designed to facilitate the creation of some complex bitmapped textures. Aged wood, hard surfaces like rock or concrete, textures that require subtle variations in color and/or "feel", are particularly good targets, but there are few limits on what can be produced.Semicuro's unique quality it its "one brush, many bristles" approach to painting. Rather than a linearly-defined set of attributes for a single brush(which is typical of most paint apps), Semicuro allows you to define any number of bristles for each brush. Each bristle is essentially a brush unto itself, each with its own settings. When all these bristles are painted at once, the results can be quite interesting.Creating bristles is easy - just use any of the five drawing tools to draw its shape, and then change the various attributes to suit your needs. There's a lot of room for experimentation, so have fun! Here are some key features of "Semicuro": · JTexPaint's model, "one brush, many bristles" makes it possible to · paint complex textures in realtime. · Textures for 3D work can be made as large as needed - just create · a new texture window the appropriate size, and paint. · Brushes are saved in XML format, making it easy to share · with other users. · Bristles can be constructed by drawing them with any of five different · tools(Freehand, Rectangle, Circle, Arc, and Line Segment), or by · combining them with other bristles. · Bristles can be edited by moving/adding/deleting points, and adjusting · the degree of curvature. · Modify up to 30 different parameters for each bristle, many of which can · be set to vary by certain amounts while painting. · Enable/disable bristles in real time, turning them on and off as needed. · Use images to paint textures. Randomize pixel rows, columns, both, or · pixels in general. · Create images from existing textures to use for painting new textures, · or enhance existing textures. · Support for multiple layers. · Editing window supports zoom in/out. · Support for undo/redo. Requirements: · Java 1.5 or later What's New in This Release: · This version moves the location of the working directory (where brushes are stored) from ~/._semicuro_ to .semicuro, so it's a good idea to back it up before booting this version for the first time. · This application uses platform-specific libaries associated with the Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) package. · The windows binary is semicuro_1.0.zip, the linux binary is semicuro_1.0.tgz, and the source is in semicuro_1.0.src
