External (plugin) for the Pure Data computer-music software GEM stands for Graphics Environment for Multimedia and is an external (plugin) for the Pure Data computer-music software.Pure Data is a real-time graphical programming environment for audio, video, and graphical processing. It is the third major branch of the family of patcher programming languages known as Max (Max/FTS, ISPW Max, Max/MSP, jMax, etc.)GEM was originally written by Mark Danks to generate real-time computer graphics, especially for audio-visual compositions. Because GEM is a visual programming environment, users do not need any experience in traditional computer languages.GEM is a collection of externals which allow the user to create OpenGL graphics within Pd, a program for real-time audio processing.GEM is an open source software, it is free for any use and runs on the OS X, LINUX, Win32 and IRIX platforms.An important thing to remember is that GEM is NOT an application.
